Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and who appeared on this earth in India 5,000 years ago. Krishna is the embodiment of love and divine joy.

Krishna was born as the eighth child of Devaki, sister of the cruel demon king Kamsa. Sage Narada had predicted that Kamsa would be killed by his nephew, so the king killed Devaki’s first six children. The seventh, Balarama escaped and the eighth, Krishna, was secretly exchanged for a cowherd’s daughter.

Krishna would cunningly steal handfuls of butter and curd from the mud pots hung in people’s homes and feast on them. He found great joy in breaking pots full of water that were being carried by young village girls. Why! He even stole the clothes of young girls as they went to bathe in the river!

After Krishna killed Kamsa, he became king. The Gita is a Hindu philosophical text that was preached by Lord Krishna to Arjuna during the battle of Kurukshetra in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
